Our founder, John McDonald, established Redefine in 2012 and the company has grown with the addition of highly skilled associates.
John McDonald, Founder
John founded Redefine following a successful career in Financial Services that spanned more than 25 years. With a strong Lean Business focus, he is passionate about improving competitiveness, implementing change programmes, coaching, and developing a continuous improvement culture.
He held a variety of roles in operational and programme management, delivering millions of euro in project benefits. As a result, he has the experience and ability to manage large multi-disciplinary projects and to navigate complex challenges.
A Business Studies graduate and Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, John applies his strong Lean skills to help clients reduce company expenditure and increase revenue. He also holds a Certificate in Training from the Irish Institute of Training and Development.
John specialises in Lean for Services and Life Sciences sectors, serving SME and corporate clients. Furthermore, he delivers Lean Business Offers to Enterprise Ireland and IDA clients nationwide. His focus is on implementing significant change to transform business challenges into effective and innovative programme solutions. At Redefine, John also provides coaching for Black Belt, Green Belt and Yellow Belt Lean Six sigma students via our eLearning platform and on-site classroom training for corporate clients.

Mary Coffey, Consultant
Mary’s focus is on working with management and their teams in the area of business development and strategy, to assist them in identifying and exploiting market opportunities.
Her emphasis is on increasing margins and improving operational performance.
She is a highly skilled Management Consultant, with extensive and varied senior management experience in the services sector. She has wide-ranging knowledge and business acumen gained from roles including Operations and Supply Chain Management with a start-up multinational software corporation, Management Consulting with a global IT consulting firm, and Customer Service
and Logistics Management in the software manufacturing sector. Her SME experience was gained from managing her own successful retail business.
A Business Studies graduate, Mary also holds an MBA. In addition, she is a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, holds Certificates in Production and Inventory Management and Train the Trainer.

Deirdre Smith, Consultant
With a strong entrepreneurial and commercial background, Deirdre is passionate about helping companies grow and innovate, and she is a committed Lean advocate. Therefore, she has a particular focus on strategy (including Business Plan Development), Management Board Development, Product Management, and Innovation.
Deirdre was co-founder and CEO of Zandar Technologies PLC from 1999, which developed broadcast video solutions for customers worldwide.
She led Zandar through their acquisition in 2007 by Harris Corporation, a $5 billion US Information and Communications Technology company. Deirdre held various management positions within Harris until 2010.
Deirdre holds an engineering degree from Trinity College Dublin and is a Chartered Director of the Institute of Directors. She sits on the board of the National Standards Authority of Ireland and the Governance Board of the Clinical Research Facility at St. James’s Hospital. She is a non-executive director of charity RSI, and is on several Advisory Boards.
Furthermore, Deirdre is a lead entrepreneur with Going for Growth, an EU-supported initiative for female CEOs, and has been mentoring ambitious female business owners since 2010. She is also a mentor with the DCU Ryan Academy start-up accelerator, Propeller, and has been an Enterprise Ireland mentor for several years.
